publié le 18-04-2020

In fact, more than 24 dead, 45 injured, 3,500 homes destroyed, 77,790 people affected, including 5,500 affected households, this is the provisional assessment of the human and material damage caused by the rain that fell this Friday, April 17, 2020, Midnight in the town of Uvira, having caused flooding and overflowing of the Mulongwe river located in the town of Mulongwe in the Kakombe and Rombe 2 districts.

The Governor of South Kivu, Théo NGWABIDJE KASI sends a message of solidarity to humanitarian organizations and people of good will in order to help the survivors of these climatic disasters. Especially in this period when South Kivu is in health and humanitarian emergency.

It should therefore be recalled that this unfortunate event which has just struck the province of South Kivu is due to the rising waters of Lake Tanganyika which already affects all residents, as well as the damaged National Route number 5 and two bridges still cut by the same cause.

Climate change - Africa Opportunities (CCAO) has just dispatched its emergency team to the field to document the facts and propose actions that can contribute to the resilience of Uvira communities in the face of rainwater floods.
